Our Restaurant
Gibbi's on the beach was the brain child of a European design engineer and inventor Frank Kaufhold and a hard working Gambian restaurant owner Gibbi Ceesay. Gibbi ran a tiny restaurant in the Cape Point craft market. Frank was a regular customer and they became good friends. With the support of the local community they were able to lease land from the government to build what they hope will become a showcase eco-tourism project for the Gambia.
The first phase of the project was to design and build what we hoped would become a 'perfect restaurant'. A unique place where customers can enjoy the evening watching the sunset on the beach, in the ocean breeze.
Our design tick list included:-
- A large open dining area overlooking the palm trees and beach, which did not require electric fans or air-conditioning.
- Large male and female toilet facilities with plenty of cubicles with hot running water -provided by a solar water heater.
- Wheelchair access.
- A big modern all stainless steel hygienic kitchen (imported from Europe) with plenty of fridges and freezers. A kitchen environment where top chefs have a smile on their face awl have the tools to efficiently provide amazing freshly cooked food.
- NO MICROWAVES!
- A welcoming African cultural environment.
- Phone charging sockets
- Ample car parking
We believe Gibbi's on the Beach is one of the best restaurants in The Gambia. Have a look at our promotional video below to see for yourself.
